EXPERIENCE TO CREATE
A music festival has more tunes to dance to than just the ones played on a stage. The sounds of everyday life are elevated to the status of music. At Mumush, we play every colour of music for You. The Arts and Crafts area and the ArtEcho activities offer a wide selection of creative genres for every participant.
Under the cool embrace of foliage, Arts and Crafts is an area dedicated to creativity. Every day you can find exciting opportunities to let your inner artist take over. A proper all-you-can-eat buffet of activities and workshops awaits.
There will be wet felting with Róbert Békési and Andrada Dobre. Wet felting can be defined as the process of continually rubbing wool fibres together with mild soap and warm water to form a firm, felted object, and is often a better approach for beginner felters to learn before they start needle felting, as it does not involve any sharp objects.
Shed some light on your inner Mumush at the cyanotype workshop with Márk Szabó. The cyanotype is a slow-reacting, photographic printing technique. The process of formulating an image is limited to near-ultraviolet light (meaning that the picture only exposes via sunlight). This process was invented in 1842 and is used to this day in the same way.
Deepen your bonds by quilling bracelets and other ornaments with Boróka Bereczky. Quilling is a paper technique that was developed during the Renaissance, but according to some sources, various motifs were decorated with it already in ancient India. Boróka specialises in jewellery. The name bracelet knotting already suggests that it is made of yarn, with a knotting technique.
There is a spot for everyone at the Batik Technique workshop of Eszter Domokos. Splashing into this activity is recommended for participants who stay for multiple days, as this is a more time-consuming process, ideally performed over two days. Using the technique of silk painting, we will make batiks that can be displayed on a wall. This is a technique that can be used to draw on the canvas, not just abstract blobs. Let your true colours show and blend into something memorable.
Brush all your fears aside and give shape to your inner Mumush at the Aquarelle technique workshop also led by Eszter Domokos. It’s up to you how you dilute, blend and drop - don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty! The water will wash it all away until the clear concept reveals itself as it dries.
A world of faces: collage workshop by Daniel Hedin also offers a cutting-edge approach to coming face to face with your inner expressions.
Swedish multi-artist Daniel Hedin invites you to a world of faces through a collage workshop, to explore the human mind and our expressions through the face, in a playful workshop that looks into the phenomenon of mimicry but also sheds light on the distorted and hidden parts of yourself and human nature.
Let’s take a moment to find our centre at the Intermission by Somló Dávid, hosted by Daniel Hedin titled “Delicate balancing of a twig”. A perfect place to stop, and breathe. We will together learn the fine art of finding our balance and connection with nature by learning how to delicately balance a twig.
Peace comes from within, but to find it, we must first get in balance and peace with nature and the world around us.
Furthermore, you can learn to make balms and lotions with Réka Kovács at the Natural Remedies - Cosmetic workshop. It is essential to pay attention to both what you put in and on your body. Treat yourself. Let’s marvel together at the wonderful properties of herbs nature has gifted us with, and experience their kindness first-hand.
The Arts and Crafts area will be open to Mumush-onauts every day from morning to evening (don’t forget to check out the detailed schedule!). There are no expectations there. Just step inside, and let that starving artist inside off the leash… Every one of us has a story to tell, art to create, and wonder to experience. Only You can do that stupid little thing that You can make! Come to the Arts and Crafts area and DO.
And as always, we will not behave, or stay still. Walking a few steps further along the central path on the land of Mumush, you will find the Artecho tent. This organisation keeps creating ripples in the mind of the curious - just like last year, they bring a wide variety of activities to reverberate your creative energy.
To begin with, there will be a Free music workshop. You are free to try the Ketán tank drums and other percussion instruments with András Viczay. In the spirit of creativity, everyone will also have the opportunity to create their own rhythms.
For more than ten years András has been making instruments and music, mainly tank drums. He plays drums and percussion instruments, and he has also given many percussion (hand drum) free music classes for both young and older people and has been teaching percussion for over ten years.
At the Stencil art workshop with Dávid Szalai, participants are invited to try their hand at creating street art. The Artecho Association will set up an installation where visitors will be able to place their creations or they can take their works home. Stencils offer a playful and approachable way to play with paint.
Demény Katalin’s Leather Jewellery workshop is all about bringing the most out of less. Here participants will be making jewellery and other small items from leather scraps, using different inspirational ideas and techniques, with freedom and creativity. This helps to minimise waste and turn scraps into beloved ornaments.
As you can see, there are plenty of ways to get creative during the days of the festival. We urge everyone to check in advance when and where these activities will take place (either on our online timetable or at the sign boards and info points placed for your convenience on the festival grounds). The best way not to miss out is to plan.
At the same time, true to the spirit of Mumush, you can just take part in whatever activity you get swept into by the current. But one thing is certain: it is a wonderful experience to create. One might even say that by creating art, our very existence becomes art as well.
Until next time, stay kind and be well!
